New Delhi (26/02/2020): The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest policy-making body of the Congress, met on Wednesday morning after almost 20 people died in the Delhi violence.

The meeting was attended by Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, P. Chidambaram, Jyotiraditya Scindia and other party leaders.

However, Rahul Gandhi could not join it as he is out of the country. After the CWC meeting, the Congress has called a meeting of all the MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha today.

Significantly, 20 people have lost their lives and more than 250 people have been injured in violence in several areas of north-east Delhi over the revised citizenship law.

For the first time in nearly two decades, this violence in Delhi has been seen in such a macabre form, which started on Sunday.

However, heavy violence erupted on Monday when two factions of the CAA’s support and opposition clashed. Swords, stones and other weapons were carried by both groups. The protesters then set fire to people’s homes and vehicles in Maujpur, Jaffarabad and other areas.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump were holding high-level talks, violence erupted again on Tuesday, just a few kilometers away.

A large balloon of smoke was seen coming out after a fire in a Gokulpuri’s tyre market. The protesters took to the streets with sticks and stones in their hands.
