NGO comes to rescue of ailing, thirsty birds as mercury rises

The rising mercury has not only left humans gasping for relief, but also birds. Nine kites, some injured, and nearly all dehydrated and malnourished, have been admitted in the Society to Prevent Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) welfare organization in Noida.

“The heat is excessive and most of these birds get dehydrated and become too weak to fly. Then they simply come down to lower altitudes and settle down closer to the ground. We cure them and then some of them fly away, but most of them keep coming back for food,” said Vineet Arora, manager at SPCA Noida.
