New Delhi, January 1: On New Year’s Eve, Delhi police fined 657 people for traffic violations including 36 for drink and drive, 103 for dangerous driving, 370 for riding without a helmet, 48 for triple riding & 100 for other traffic violations, Delhi police said on Saturday.
Earlier the Delhi traffic police had issued SOPs to avoid traffic violations on New Year’s eve.
On previous new year eve, the count of challans were double than this year. Last year 1,336 challans were issued by the traffic police.
According to police, Adequate security arrangements was put in place on the eve of the new year to implement the guidelines issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority keeping in view the spread of COVID-19 here.
Moreover, they said this year less fines are being issued because of the night curfew implemented in the territory.
