Omicron wave begins in Delhi as 84% samples found positive for the variant in last 2 Days

New Delhi, January 3: Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Monday in Delhi Assembly said that 84% of the COVID-19 cases reported in Delhi in the past 2 days were of the Omicron variant.
He said, as per the genome sequencing reports of Dec 30-31, the Omicron variant has been found in 84 per cent of Covid samples tested.
He added, “Delhi is expected to report around 4,000 cases today with the positivity rate rising to 6.5%. Currently, 202 patients are admitted to Delhi hospitals.”
Further, Jain said, Of the latest 187 Covid samples tested, 152 had Omicron.
Jain said there is no shortage of medical staff in state-run hospitals and clinics.
He further said, Omicron came from outside India. Everyone knew it. Delhi govt repeatedly asked Centre to stop flights but it denied.
As per Union health ministry reports, Delhi has reported 351 Omicron cases so far of which 51 patients have recovered. During the last one week, Delhi’s daily caseload has risen from 331 cases on December 27 to 3,194 fresh cases on January 2, with a positivity rate of 4.52% in the capital.
In total, India has reported 1,700 cases of Omicron spreading across 23 states.
