196 people challaned for drunk driving on Holi in Delhi

March 19, New Delhi: As many as 196 individuals were challaned in the national capital for drunken driving on the occasion of the Holi festival, informed Delhi Police on Saturday.

In addition to drunken driving, 1,673 people were prosecuted for driving a motorcycle without a helmet, 275 for triple riding and 25 for dangerously driving a vehicle.

“During the Shab-e-Barat celebrations night, 248 people were challaned for driving two-wheelers without helmets,” police said

As this year Shab-e-Barat coincided with the Holi festival The security arrangements were intensified by the Delhi Police in the national capital.

Earlier on Friday, Delhi police commissioner, Rakesh Asthana had said that they deployed more police personnel in areas that are communally sensitive & have mixed populations.

Heavy police force was seen in various sensitive areas on the festival day to prevent any kind of hooliganism which is often done by miscreants under the guise of celebration.
