Delhi To Get Dedicated Lanes For Buses And Goods Carriers From April

New Delhi, March 24: To make Delhi Roads safer and to penalise errant drivers, The Delhi government has decided to strictly commence lane discipline for buses and goods carriers on 15 selected roads in the city from 1st April onwards.

The Vehicles found plying on other lanes will be liable for prosecution under Section 192-A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which prescribes a fine of Rs 10,000, and imprisonment upto to six months.

The Transport Department along with Traffic Police will earmark dedicated lanes which will be used exclusively by buses and goods carriers from 8 am to 10 pm and along with other vehicles from 10 pm to 8 am, stated a release from the Delhi Transport Department.

“Road Safety is of primary importance to us. By training and enforcement, we want to ensure that Delhi roads are safer for all citizens,” said transport minister Kailash Gahlot. ANI quoted him saying.

“To make Delhi roads safer, the @ArvindKejriwal govt is starting Bus Lane Enforcement drives to increase Commuter Safety & tackle congestion. Directions have been issued to DTC & Cluster for driver sensitization, PWD for earmarking bus lanes & Transport, Police enforcement teams,” Transport minister Kailash Gahlot tweeted on Wednesday.

The Transport Department has issued advisory to its public fleet operators DTC and DIMTS to sensitize its drivers about restricting or plying their buses in the earmarked bus lanes to avoid penalty and prosecution

The first phase will see the enforcement drive conducted on 15 of the total 46 corridors selected under the initiative.
