New Delhi (10/04/2022): During the promotions of the upcoming movie ‘Jersey’ directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri starring Shahid Kapoor, Pankaj Kapoor, and Mrunal Thakur, it was under suspicion that the movie is just a remake of the film and the audience would not get anything new watching it.
However, actor Shahid Kapoor cleared the air stating that although it is based on a Telugu film available on youtube for the audience, it is a totally new movie. After editing, both the films have come out totally different, he added.
“When I watched it, I wanted to get it across the North Indian population of India because the main hero of the film is the story while the emotions about ‘family’ and ‘a father’s relation with his son’ are just universal,” Shahid Kapoor says.
The actor compares Jersey to his previous film, Kabir Singh, also a remake of a Telugu film. “It was scarier during Kabir Singh as the Telugu version was already on OTT and a lot of Hindi-watching audience had seen the movie who liked it very much”, Shahid Kapoor added.
The difference lies in the story and the point of view from which the films are produced. “The story is always there but a new film is about rediscovering”. The 41-year-old actor states that Jersey is shot at a different location in Chandigarh, Punjab and proper Punjabi is being spoken in the film. The world created in this film is totally different from the original Telugu movie.
He maintains that people who watch Hindi dubbed movies on youtube would not come to theatres to watch such films. This movie does not cater to that audience as it is a totally different experience. “Audience will accept the film as long as it is good and not a copy-pasted version”, he states.
Shahid Kapoor is positive about his upcoming film believing that film remakes can be different and audiences will accept it if the story is worth watching.
