Deadly Omicron sub-variant found in 60% of Delhi Samples. Here’s all you need to know

New Delhi, 21st April 2022: A deadly sub-variant of Omicron, ‘BA.2.12’ has been detected in over 60% of the total samples from Delhi, as per sources.

According to an Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) source, Omicron variant derivative BA.2.12.1 has been detected in a few samples in Delhi, which is thought to be contributing to the current increase in cases in the United States.

According to an authoritative source, new sub-variants BA.2.12 (52% samples) and BA.2.10 (11% samples) are demonstrating significant transmission and have been detected in over 60% of the total samples sequenced recently in Delhi. Although officials are yet to confirm if it was detected in certain samples of Delhi.

“It has been found out that the BA.2.12 variant has a growth advantage of roughly 30% to 90% every week,” the source said.

Experts have stated that the sub-variant has also been detected in genome sequencing of samples from districts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh as well.
