Himachal Pradesh (02/05/2022): While the nation seems indulged in the debate around Pros and Cons of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Himachal Pradesh intends to be the first one to pave the way forward.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Monday reiterated his claim that the hill state will implement UCC soon.

“We will do it (UCC) soon. The situation in Himachal is different from other states and it will not harm Muslim society. I think everyone especially Muslim women will welcome this step. They will have a healthy family life to live and it will be beneficial for them,” Thakur said while speaking to a news agency on Monday.

Recently Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had also said that UCC should be implemented in the greater interest of Muslim women otherwise polygamy would continue.

BJP leaders have taken a pro-UCC stand since quite long time but there seems no clarity about its implementation on the national level.
