Tamil Nadu, Sept 7th,2022: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to his father, Rajiv Gandhi on Wednesday morning, while officially commencing the 150-day foot march called ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

The padyatra(foot march) begun in Kanyakumari and will culminate in Kashmir after covering a total distance of about 3,500 km.

The rally is meant to provide an alternative to the “politics of fear, bigotry, and prejudice” and to the economics of livelihood destruction, increasing unemployment, and growing inequalities.

As scheduled, Rahul Gandhi first visited the Sriperumbudur Memorial near Chennai before commencing the yatra. Sriperumbudur was the assassination site of his father, the former PM of India, Rajiv Gandhi.

Sharing a photo, Gandhi said in a tweet, “I lost my father to the politics of hate and division. I will not lose my beloved country to it too. Love will conquer hate. Hope will defeat fear. Together, we will overcome.”

He was seen planting a sapling at the memorial. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief KS Alagiri and other senior leaders accompanied Gandhi.
