New Delhi, 19 September 2022: Recently, a retired 60-year-old head constable, Jai Bhagwan from Delhi Police was detained for allegedly impersonating a senior police officer and blackmailing money from a man in Rohini.
The accused head constable left the police on August 31. According to the police, this was his first attempt at extortion. The crime was reported to the police on Saturday at the South Rohini police station when a man complained about getting several calls from a person who introduced himself as the SHO of Samaypur Badli and then the SHO of South Rohini.
“The caller had promised the man that he would help him recover his money from someone named Praveen Gupta. The caller was lying which was discovered when he went to the Samaypur Badli police station to confirm this,” police said.
Later, the caller urged the complainant to meet him at Delhi Golden Hospital, Sector-2, Rohini, according to Pranav Tayal, DCP (Rohini), and his team. He was dispatched with two police officers to the location where they witnessed a man impersonating an Inspector while donning a police outfit.
When the police officers asked the man about his job and ID card, the man was unable to respond. He was taken to the police station, where he acknowledged being a retired HC from the Delhi Police’s Communication Unit. He was extorting individuals and using the SHO’s fake ID, according to the police.
