New Delhi, 28 September 2022: At Mandoli jail in New Delhi, an undertrial prisoner reportedly tried to rape and assaulted a 31-year-old doctor, while the junior resident doctor was performing a routine checkup on every prisoner.
The police reported that the suspect is accused of hiding in the bathroom before molesting the victim. Threatened by his behaviour the doctor sounded an alarm and called the security personnel.
According to a senior police officer, she was able to shove him away and run outdoors. The convict was quickly captured, according to a jail official. According to officials, the deputy superintendent of the jail provided information about the incident to the police.
The doctor was contacted and counselled, while a medical examination was also done. Authorities at the jail have also claimed that in order to avoid another occurrence like this, security has been stepped up around the barracks.
While it was found that the accused is in jail charged under two cases of crime against women. He was found guilty in a 2020 case that had been filed with the Yamuna Depot Metro police station.
