New Delhi, 24 October 2022: Several hospitals across the national capital have prepared to handle emergencies and have allocated beds in case of burn occurrences from crackers and diyas on Monday.
It is also planned that patients with burn injuries will be prioritized in hospitals like Lok Nayak, Safdarjung, and GTB, which have also expanded counters and reserved beds and staff.
While Dr. Subhash Giri, the medical director of GTB Hospital, said six beds have been set aside for patients with burn injuries. We have a special ward just for burn patients, but right now, six beds have been set aside, and more will be given if necessary, he said.
He further noted that apart from the regular team, senior resident doctors and consultants will be present throughout the Diwali night on call.
Simultaneously, the burn and plastic surgery department at Lok Nayak Hospital is prepared to handle any cases of burn injuries, and 10 beds have been set aside in the burns ward, according to a senior physician there. A top physician stated that the disaster ward has more than 20 beds and is open around-the-clock.
The busiest times on Diwali are from 6 pm to midnight, and there are 112 beds available in our division during those times. The entire department would be on duty, according to Dr. Shalabh Kumar, chief of the burns and plastics division at Safdarjung Hospital.
He noted that fewer burn injuries are anticipated this year due to the prohibition on firecrackers.
All of the burns and plastic surgery department’s physicians will be on call at Safdarjung Hospital, and 20 more beds have been set aside by the administration.
