New Delhi, 8 November 2022: Delhi BJP leaders is finding it challenging to choose candidates for the upcoming civic body elections after receiving over 15,000 recommendations and bios, party leaders said today.
Ahead of the 250-ward Municipal Corporation of Delhi Elections 2022, teams of observers gathered input from local BJP leaders regarding the probabilities over the course of two days.
These teams, consisting of two central and Delhi unit members, visited each of the 14 districts on Monday and Tuesday to gather names of potential candidates with solid reputations and strong winnability factors, according to the party leaders.
A senior member of the Delhi BJP involved in the shortlisting procedure stated that three candidates were recommended by the presidents and general secretaries of 270 mandals, 250 wards, and the current and former MLAs of each of Delhi’s 70 Assembly constituencies.
Moreover, the BJP’s Delhi unit office and senior functionaries are receiving a huge number of applications from party leaders and activists who want to run in the elections.
The senior leader stated, “We have already received over 15,000 applications through these methods, and the number will increase.”
Talking about the nominating procedure for the elections, another senior Delhi unit leader stated, “We are attempting to process as many applications as possible but it is proving to be a tough assignment due to the short time available to file the nominations.”
“Three likely candidates from each ward will be narrowed down. Before the candidates’ names are revealed around November 12, the national leadership will discuss the shortlisted names,” they further added.
