Oral Health Is Mirror to Overall Health and Well-Being, says Dr Vidhi Dhakray Khanna

New Delhi, November 9, 2022: Good oral health serves as an indicator of overall well-being and quality of life. Medical practitioners believe that untreated oral diseases can also increase the chances of adverse health conditions.

Hence to create awareness about oral health and to burst myths surround oral hygiene, Dr. Vidhi Dhakray Khanna, Senior Dental Consultant at Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida, spoke to Ten News.

Dr. Khanna also talked about how poor oral hygiene can result in the growth of bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogene. “These bacteria can enter the bloodstream and result in infective endocarditis. Streptococcus pyogenes can also result in the growth of dental plaque,” she said.

 

Poor oral health can lead to a wide variety of health issues including tooth decay, gum infection, bad breath, and so forth, Dr Khanna pointed, adding, “Parents should take the responsibility of inculcating good oral hygiene in children. The latter should enjoy and regularly indulge in oral hygiene-related activities including brushing, flossing, using mouth wash, and tongue cleaning, among other things.”

She also shared that for ensuring regular dental checkups every six months and maintaining a nutritious diets also contribute to good oral hygiene.

“Oral health is a mirror to general health,” said Dr. Khanna as she reiterated the importance of taking care of one’s well-being.
