Delhi Government should strengthen Covid-19 treatment and detection measures : Delhi Congress

NEW DELHI, April 1, 2023—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that despite Corona infections spreading fast in the Capital with the number of cases soaring nine fold in the past 15 days, with the positivity rate rising to 12.48 per cent, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has adopted a casual approach by announcing that the Delhi Government was “prepared” for any eventuality, and there was “no need to worry yet” and “mask was not mandatory”. He said that it was time the Kejriwal Government took the fast spread of Corona infections seriously lest it would be caught napping as it had happened during the previous Covid-19 pandemic surges. He said that the Delhi Government should also step up Corona detection tests as the present number of 2000-3000 tests per day was not sufficient to gauge the actual spread of the virus in the Capital.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that in 2020, when the first few cases of Covid-19 infections were reported in Delhi, the inexperience of the Kejriwal Government in tackling such a novel virus had taken the lives of many innocent persons and many suffered irreversible health problems, while in 2021, the Kejriwal Government was dulled into inaction, which again caused unimaginable devastation with hospitals running out of beds, medicines and medical oxygen, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people with hearse vans queueing up outside burial and cremation grounds for their turn to give final rests to the dead bodies of Corona victims.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that without affecting people’s livelihood, the Delhi Government should enforce Covid protocols so that innocent lives are not lost due to the negligence of the authorities, as had happened in the past. He said that people should be encouraged to wear masks without making it mandatory instead of the Government taking a lax attitude regarding use of masks by people setting out of their residences. He said that the hospitals should also be well prepared to admit and treat Corona patients if there was a sudden rush of the virus-infected, as hospitals should not be taken aback if such a rush occurs.  He said that the Government should also ensure total protection to the health workers, as on previous occasions, many health workers and doctors succumbed to the Corona virus, and the next of kind of the deceased were yet to be given the Rs 1 crore compensation announced by the Kejriwal Government.
