New Delhi (India), 3rd April 2023: The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that the multinational fast food chain, McDonald’s intends to temporarily shut its US offices and notify corporate staff about impending layoffs.

The Chicago-based fast food chain requested via an internal email last week that some US staff members and some foreign employees work remotely from Monday through Wednesday so that it could virtually tell corporate staff about the staffing decisions.

Additionally, according to the report, the business asked staff to postpone in-person meetings at its headquarters with clients and other outside parties.

The email read, “During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organisation.”

As part of its comprehensive strategic plan, McDonald’s declared in January that it intended to make “difficult” changes to its corporate staffing levels by April.

In a January interview, Chief Executive Chris Kempczinski stated that he anticipated making savings through the workforce evaluation but did not have a specific dollar amount or target number of jobs to eliminate at the time.

Kempczinski said, “Some jobs that are existing today are either going to get moved or those jobs may go away.”
