Mumbai (India), 12th April 2023: An official statement from the Ministry of Electronics and IT stated that the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-Bombay) have partnered to develop a powerful touch-less biometric capture technology for easy usage whenever and whenever.

In accordance with the agreement, UIDAI and IIT Bombay will collaborate on research to develop a mobile fingerprint capture system and a liveness model connected with the system.

Once completed and operational, the touch-less biometric capture technology will enable fingerprint authentication from home, similar to face authentication.

The new method is anticipated to capture many fingerprints simultaneously and increase the success rate of authentication. Once implemented, the new system will be an addition to the services already provided by the Aadhaar ecosystem.

Such a system will make use of a common mobile phone that is accessible to most individuals and has a positive user experience, together with an intelligent combination of signal or image processing, machine learning, or deep learning. This will lead to the advancement of the Universal Authenticator Technology.

Through their partnership with IIT Bombay’s National Centre of Excellence in Technology for Internal Security (NCETIS),which is a collaboration of the institute with MOEIT and UIDAI will work together to conduct research and development (R&D) towards the creation of a system for UIDAI.
