New Delhi (India), April 15, 2023: This hands-free system is now legally permitted in the UK for the first time thanks to the UK government’s clearance of Ford’s self-driving technology. The government has given Ford permission to activate its BlueCruise self-driving technology, according to Ford.
By using the technology, drivers are permitted to remove their hands off the steering wheel and let the vehicle drive itself. However, they still need to pay attention to what it’s doing because the car will notify them if it thinks they are looking somewhere else.
Only the all-electric 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E is equipped with the system. A forward-facing camera looks for lane markings and speed signs, while five radars monitor other vehicles’ positions and speeds.
On the majority of Britain’s motorways, BlueCruise can be activated for £17.99 per month to regulate operations like steering, acceleration, braking, and lane positioning.
Users can remove their hands off the wheel, but an infrared camera makes sure they are still looking ahead in case human intervention is needed.
Warning messages will be presented on the dashboard, followed by aural alarms and ultimately an automatic slowing of the car, if the system determines the driver is not paying attention.
UK’s Transport Minister said, “It is great news that Ford has chosen Great Britain for the European launch of their BlueCruise technology, and I am delighted that this country is once more at the forefront of innovation…The latest advanced driver assistance systems make driving smoother and easier, but they can also make roads safer by reducing scope for driver error.”
