Mumbai (India), 19th April 2023: After screening at numerous film festivals, The Song of Scorpions, which features the late actor Irrfan Khan’s farewell performance, will be released in theatres on April 28.
Golshifteh Farahani, an Iranian-French actress, co-stars with Irrfan in the movie, which is set in Jaisalmer’s Thar desert. Waheeda Rehman, Shashank Arora, and Tillotama Shome also have significant supporting roles.
Today, the movie’s trailer debuted on digital platforms. Anup Singh, who previously collaborated with Irrfan to create the critically praised film Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost, also wrote and directed this one.
In The Song of Scorpions, Irrfan plays a camel merchant in a tale of twisted love, retaliation, and the healing power of music. Nooran, a fiercely independent tribal lady played by Golshifteh Farahani, is studying the age-old healing skill of scorpion singing from her grandmother Zubeida, portrayed by Waheeda Rehman.
Commenting on the film director Anup Singh said, “The film is about choice: you can either choose to breathe out the poison you breathe in, or sing a song of love that heals rather than harms. It’s an important film given the times we live in. Irrfan believed in it passionately and I am glad that people will be able to see it soon. It’s an emotional moment for me and the entire team. This screening of the film I hope will bring healing to Irrfan’s family and to all of us who loved Irrfan.”
The movie, a Swiss, French, and Singaporean co-production, was shot in stunning locations and features an eerie soundtrack. The movie is made by Feather Light Films and KNM and is presented by Panorama Spotlight and 70mm Talkies.
