Guru Pranam Utsav: A Two-Day Celebration of India’s Rich Cultural Heritage

New Delhi (India), April 20, 2023: Classical music lovers were in for a treat as the 19th edition of Guru Pranam Utsav, a festival of music and dance, kicked off at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on the evening of April 19th, 2023. The event was graced by renowned artists and witnessed awe-inspiring performances that left the audience spellbound.

The festival commenced with a mesmerizing performance by Siddharth Kishore, who presented Raag Madhuvanti chota khayal 3 taal, followed by a Bhajan in Raag Bhageshree. Accompanied by Roopak Mishra on tabla and Shambhu Nath on Sarangi, Kishore’s prolonged alaps and classical music were applauded by the audience.

The second performance of the evening was by Dr. Neeta Mathur, who presented the Khayal, the most popular and enchanting musical form of Hindustani classical music, and Pushtu Marg Haveli sangeet, a traditional temple music comprising devotional padas by medieval period saints. She was accompanied by Abhijeet Aich on tabla, Ashiq Kumar on Harmonium, and Purva Joshi and Geetika Mishra on Tanpura. The audience was left enchanted by her soulful voice and enchanting melodies.

The festival was blessed by the presence of eminent Flutist and SNA Awardee, Chetan Joshi, who hailed the performers for their mesmerizing music. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “We are the composers and conductors for the Indian classical music, which is the best part and specialty of our Indian classical music.”

Gajanan Mali, Founder of TEN NEWS NETWORK, also praised the artists for their exceptional performance. “The music was so soothing and attractive that we felt really great listening to it. Your performance was very well executed, and you have reached the heights of Mount Everest,” he said.

 

The festival was presented under the able guidance of the world-famous Odissi exponent, Dr. Jyoti Shrivastava, founder of Vaishali Kala Kendra NOIDA. Speaking on the occasion, she said, “This event aims to carry forward Guru Srinath Raut’s teachings and the legacy of Guru-Shishya Parampara [teacher-disciple tradition]. This year, we are completing 35 years of Guru Pranam Utsav.”

The festival was attended by Delhi’s elite classical music lovers, who appreciated the program’s grandeur and the performers’ exceptional talent. The two-day celebration paid homage to the late Odissi Guru Srinath Raut and celebrated India’s rich cultural heritage through classical music and dance traditions.
