New Delhi (India), 30th April 2023: Devusinh Chauhan, minister of state for telecom, stated on Saturday that all unconnected villages will be covered by a 4G network by 2024.
He was addressing to commemorate the 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ which will air on Sunday. According to Chauhan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi always urges everyone to accomplish more, and his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ episodes further inspire people to take government initiatives and services to the last mile.
Chauhan said, “If we talk about 4G saturation project, about 38,000-40,000 villages don’t have signal. Prime Minister says that you have done good work but reach out to every home. We have kept target to complete 4G saturation by 2024.”
According to the minister, establishing a 4G network in all uncovered villages will result in socioeconomic development and the closing of digital inequalities.
Chauhan further said, “It will bring a lot of socio-economic transformation in villages where 4G signals will reach. Citizen standing at last mile will be able to check accountability of government once he is digitally connected. Connecting villages digitally in a way means connecting people with democratic values.”
The Union Cabinet authorised a programme in July 2022 for the saturation of 4G mobile services in uncovered villages across the country at a total cost of Rs 26,316 crore.
The initiative would bring 4G mobile services to 24,680 unconnected villages in tough and inaccessible places. Furthermore, 6,279 villages with only 2G or 3G connectivity will be upgraded to 4G.
The project will be carried out by BSNL with the help of an indigenously designed 4G technology stack and will be sponsored by the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF).
