Guwahati, 12th May 2023: Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, is facing a defamation suit at the Kamrup metros district court in Guwahati.
The case was filed by Assam Public Works (APW) President Aabhijeet Sharma, along with a petition seeking an injunction to restrain his autobiography.
Filed against Gogoi and Rupa Publications, the charges remain that of alleged misleading and defamatory statements against him in the book.
The court has issued a summons to the petitioners and the defendants to be present on the next hearing date, June 3.
In his petition, Sharma, who also served as the Chief Justice of India from 2018-2019, claims that he had his ‘unblemished reputation’ tarnished by the ‘baseless and defamatory allegations’ by Gogoi in his autobiography.
