New Delhi, 15th May 2023: Former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain contacted the prison administration asking them to lodge in with more inmates citing ‘loneliness’ and ‘depression.’
A superintendent of Delhi’s Tihar prison has been issued a notice for moving two prisoners into his cell. This action however was taken without running it through the jail administration. The superintendent in charge has been called for questioning, and the inmates were immediately moved back to their original cells.
‘Action has been initiated against the Superintendent of Jail No 7 for transferring two prisoners to the cell of former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain who requested to lodge him with at least two inmates citing depression and need for more social interactions,’ an official statement from the jail authorities read.
This follows last year’s incident wherein an official was suspended for allegedly providing the former minister with VIP treatment.
The action was initiated after the Enforcement Directorate presented CCTV evidence to a court, stating that Jain was living a lavish lifestyle in jail and influencing investigations by meeting with co-accused in his case frequently.
