New Delhi, 17th May 2023: Officials confirmed that Vivek Raghuvanshi, the coveted journalist, was arrested along with former Navy Commander Ashish Pathak related to the espionage charges against them.
The case is in connection to the leak of sensitive military material, such as details of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) programmes and potential armed forces procurements.
Journalist Raghuvanshi is allegedly involved in illegal collection of sensitive information, such as the details of the DRDO projects, their progresses, furture procurement of the armed forces, preparedness and even the diplomatic talks between India and its allies to then share the obtained information with other foreign countries.
His position as a journalist for a US-based news portal specialising in defence and space manufacturing allegedly helped in his act.
Authorities believe Raghuvanshi was working in collaboration with Pathak, and added that they suspect this to be a part of a much larger conspiracy, without giving much details about Pathak’s role in the ordeal.
The two officials were arrested according to the Official Secrets Act, after the police authorities conducted a raid to probe the leaks further.
