Guwahati, 10th June 2023: Assam CM Himanta Sarma today met his Manipur counterpart N Biren Singh in the backdrop of the ongoing tense situation in the state.
The leader visited the neighbouring state as the tense situation in the state continues, marking his first visit to the state ever since violence erupted on May 3. The move is also seen as the first effort of the BJP to build a political roadmap to peace.
This comes as earlier today; the state announced a major reshuffle in police and state administration in Manipur. 11 police officers and several top bureaucrats, including IAS officers, have been transferred after fresh violence that claimed three lives.
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) said that this attack is yet another example of insurgents’ “utter disregard” and demanded swift action against the perpetrators.
A Peace Committee has also been set up in the state under the Chairpersonship of the Governor. The committee members include Chief Minister, a few Ministers in the State Government, MP, MLAs and leaders from different political parties.
