UN Climate officer claims India vulnerable to climate change due to heavy population

Coimbatore, 11th June 2023: According to UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim, India is particularly vulnerable to climate change due to its large population.
Speaking at a Youth 20 (Y20) event on climate action, he stated that India is particularly vulnerable to climate change due to its large population and the nature of the country makes it more sensitive than most other places.
Y20 is an official consultative forum where youth from all G20 member countries can interact with one another. According to the UNEP Executive Director, India faces the same environmental challenges as the rest of the world.
He further spoke of the climate impacts that the Earth faces and gave examples of the flooding last year in Pakistan and huge wildfires in America and Europe.
Southern Europe was on fire last summer. China had massive flooding the year before last, and the drought that they had last year.
