Chennai, 13th June 2023: The AIADMK party officials today lashed out against state BJP chief Annamalai for his comments on former state CM Jayalalithaa for her involvement in the disproportionate assets case.
The party today passed a resolution calling him “inexperienced, irresponsible, and motivated”. AIADMK yesterday threatened to review ties with ally BJP if Annalamalai isn’t reigned in.
According to the resolution, Annamalai’s interview with Jayalalithaa has harmed the AIADMK cadre, noting that the iconic leader was pivotal in bringing the BJP to power for the first time in 1998.
An AIADMK district secretaries meeting began this morning amid tensions with ally BJP. Despite the fact that the meeting was called to discuss new membership enrollment, it also criticised K Annamalai’s remark.
The BJP, too, reacted to senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar’s threat to review the alliance yesterday, stating, “There can be no big brother in an alliance.”
Despite the fact that the Supreme Court eventually convicted Jayalalithaa’s assistant VK Sasikala and a few others in a disproportionate assets case in which the former Chief Minister was the lead accused, Jayalalithaa died before the final sentence was issued. So, while the Supreme Court’s decision invalidated the Karnataka High Court’s favourable decision, it did not technically convict her.
In response to this development, BJP state Vice President Narayanan Thirupati remarked today, “Annamalai has the right to say.” On the alliance’s future, he continued, “Time will tell, we have nearly a year for polls.”
