Chennai, 14th June 2023: Tamil Nadu cabinet Minister and DMK leader V Senthil Balaji broke down in tears while he was on his way for his medical check-up after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate officials today.
The ED authorities raided his home earlier this week for his alleged connection to a money launcering case. He was arrested in the early hours of today morning after being questioned for hours.
The probe agency then took Mr Balaji for a medical examination after the arrest, where dramatic scenes ensured at a government hospital in Chennai. The leader was seen weeping inconsolably as his supporters outside shouted slogans against the Enforcement Directorate authorities.
He was then bodily taken out of the ambulance and rushed inside the hospital.
This comes as recently the income tax officials in India had searched the properties of Balaji’s associates across the state. The allegations against him are of his cash-to-job practices during his tenure at the Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK cabinet.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had slammed the BJP-led central government for the raids on Mr Balaji and said the party is resorting to “politics of intimidation”.
