New Delhi, 13th June 2023: A number of beautician partners protested at the Urban Company Gurugram office, citing worries over the company’s alleged permanent suspension of their IDs.

According to Inc42, the protesting workers said that their IDs were being disabled, both temporarily and permanently, due to issues such as booking cancellations and a drop in user ratings.

The problem of restricted IDs is not limited to salon service providers, but affects many Urban Company partners across multiple segments. The protesting beauticians also brought up another issue they are having with service bookings.

They reportedly said that even when they have open appointment slots available, Urban Company’s app occasionally fails to indicate the availability of its associate beauticians, impacting their income.

The complaining partners also claimed that the company is promoting new beauticians on the platform, making it difficult for established partners to gain repeat reservations. This alleged favouritism towards new arrivals has prompted questions about fairness and equal opportunity for long-term partners.

The dissatisfied beauticians ultimately banded together, and decided to protest to express their concerns and seek solutions from Urban Company, which is one of India’s major home service providers.

The present uproar comes at a difficult time for Urban Company, which is dealing with rising losses and a cash shortage. Due to rising expenses, Urban Company’s consolidated net loss more than doubled to INR 514 Cr in fiscal year 2021-22 (FY22) from INR 249.2 Cr in FY21.
