New Delhi, (15/06/2023): The Delhi Police charged Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh with sexual harassment on Thursday and filed a report requesting that the second case brought against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act be dropped.

A kid was among the athletes who accused Singh of sexual harassment. The minor’s charges could have resulted in a five-year prison sentence if proven. However, her father, the case’s complainant, retracted the claims. According to an unnamed police officer, detectives discovered evidence in the first case against Singh, but because he faces a maximum sentence of five years, arresting him is not obligatory.

Another municipal court was instructed by the Delhi Police that no corroborative evidence was found against Singh in the POCSO Act case and that it should be dismissed. The police referenced testimony from the minor wrestler, her father, Singh, and other witnesses in their 552-page cancellation report. When no corroborating evidence is discovered, a cancellation report is filed. The case will be heard again on July 4.

The allegations against Singh were read out by public prosecutor Atul Srivastav, who stated that they had filed criminal charges in a case filed by six wrestlers and sought closure in the other case brought on behalf of the kid. A hearing on the charge sheet has been set for June 22.

Following the completion of the inquiry, Deputy Police Commissioner Pranav Tayal stated that they filed a report asking for the termination of the case based on claims of the minor and her father.
