New Delhi, 17th June 2023: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India will now look into the attacks on Indian diplomatic missions in Canada and the United States.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has opened two separate investigations into the attacks under the tough anti-terror statute, UAPA. According to sources, the Home Ministry would soon transfer them to the NIA.

First Information Reports, or FIRs, were filed on the March 2023 attacks by Khalistan supporters while police were looking for the since-arrested separatist Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh.

A grenade was also hurled during the protest at the Indian High Commission in Canada, which is why the FIR includes provisions from the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act.

In March, Khalistan activists stormed the Indian Consulate in San Francisco, and the FIR in this case also included UAPA provisions.

The NIA is already looking into the attack on the Indian High Commission in London after filing a case for insulting the tricolour flag. The NIA has dispatched investigators to London, and the agency has also released images of 45 alleged assailants.
