New Delhi, 18th June 2023: Over 54 people have died, and 400 have been hospitalised in UP’s Ballia district Hospital in the past three days.
The ever-increasing temperatures in the region are considered one of the factors in the instances.
A severe heatwave seems to have swept across UP, with most places seeing temperatures north of over 40 degrees. The sudden increase in deaths and patients being admitted to hospitals with fever, breathing trouble, and other issues have overwhelmed the hospital, putting its staff on alert.
This comes as over 23 patients died on June 15, 20 the next day, and 11 yesterday, SK Yadav, in-charge Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Ballia, claimed.
The district hospital is so crowded that patients cannot acquire stretchers, and several attendants are carrying their patients to the emergency ward on their shoulders. However, the Additional Health Director has stated that it becomes problematic when ten people arrive at the exact moment, but they do have stretchers.
