Over 30,000 people affected in 10 Assam districts due to floods

Guwahati, 20/06/2023: Official records with the Assam government confirm that the flood-like situation in Assam has impacted close to 31,000 people across ten state districts.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s (ASDMA) daily flood report, floods have affected about 30,700 people in the districts of Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Sonitpur, and Udalguri.

The Lakhimpur district has been impacted the most, with over 22,000 people affected, followed by Dibrugarh, with over 3,800 people and Kokrajhar, with about 1,800 people.

The administration maintains 25 relief distribution facilities in seven districts, but no relief camp is currently operational.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Red Alert, forecasting very heavy to severe rainfall in numerous Assam districts over the next five days.

IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati issued a Red Alert for 24 hours beginning Monday, followed by Orange Alerts for the next two days and a Yellow Alert for Thursday in a Special Weather Bulletin.
