New Delhi, 24th June 2023: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over an all-party conference in New Delhi today to review the situation in Manipur. The meeting is set at 3 p.m.
This comes as events such as arson have continued in Manipur since May 3, and the state administration has extended the internet ban for five more days, till June 25, with immediate effect, to prevent further disruption to tranquilly.
Data services have also been prohibited because of the ongoing instability in the state. It all began on May 3, when violence erupted at a rally sponsored by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest the demand for the inclusion of Meiteis on the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the timing of the all-party meeting called by Union Home Minister, saying it comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a State visit to the United States, and therefore implying that the meeting is unimportant to him.
