New Delhi, 24th June 2023: On Friday, Shashi Tharoor, senior Congress party leader, earned an honorary doctorate from the Geneva School of Diplomacy. Tharoor took to Twitter to express his gratitude to the university’s founder, President Colum Murphy, and Dean Athar Sultan-Khan, saying he is “delighted and honoured” to receive the honorary doctorate.

According to the official statement, Tharoor was awarded the honorary degree for his lifelong advocacy of United Nations ideals and Indian democracy, prolific and enlightening contributions to literature, and unwavering support for Open Society and democracy.
He was also awarded the PhD for “bravely raising his needed voice ahead of a gathering storm and the rising menace of tyranny…and because the planet and the Free World’s ever more pressing need for such a voice.”
