Over 4 lakh people affected from Assam floods

Guwahati, 25th June 2023: The flood situation in Assam remained dire on Sunday, with over four lakh people affected by the downpour across nine districts, even as water levels began to fall, according to an official.

According to an Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), official, three people have died in this year’s first wave of floods in various sections of the state.

According to an ASDMA report, the deluge has affected about 4,07,700 people in the districts of Baksa, Barpeta, Darrang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, and Udalguri.

According to the official, water levels have begun to drop in several regions. The administration has operated 101 relief camps in these districts, where 81,352 people have sought refuge and 119 aid distribution facilities in five districts.

According to ASDMA, 1,118 villages are underwater, and 8,469.56 hectares of cropland have been devastated across Assam.

Flood waters have damaged dams, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in Darrang, Sonitpur, Kamrup, Golaghat, Nalbari, Barpeta, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Goalpara, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Udalguri, and Lakhimpur, according to the report.

According to ASDMA, urban areas in the Darrang district have been swamped, and the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Tezpur and Neamatighat.
