South Eastern Railway GM suspended for Odisha train tragedy

New Delhi, 1st July 2023: Archana Joshi, the South Eastern Railway General Manager, was fired over a month after the horrific three-train disaster in Odisha’s Balasore.

The Cabinet Appointments Committee approved Anil Kumar Mishra’s appointment as General Manager of the South Eastern Railway.

“South Eastern Railway’s General Manager Archana Joshi was fired following the Balasore train accident. The Cabinet Appointments Committee has approved Anil Kumar Mishra as the new General Manager of South Eastern Railway,” Indian Railway said in an official statement.

This comes as on June 2, a triple train disaster involving the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, the Howrah-bound Shalimar Express, and a freight train killed 291 people and injured over 1000 others.

Meanwhile, after the triple train disaster in Odisha’s Balasore district, 52 bodies are yet to be identified at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar.
