New Delhi, 02nd July 2023: The Indian Meteorological Department announced that heavy rain had triggered flash floods and landslides in Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and other parts of northern India.
On Saturday, landslides in the state’s Chamoli area closed the Badrinath National Highway for the second time.
Regarding the country’s rapid monsoon advance, IMD scientist Soma Sen told ANI, “The monsoon is active currently with its rapid advancement in the last 4-5 days. The monsoon has hit practically the entire country after leaving some portions of northwest India. The monsoon has inundated Gujarat and south-east Rajasthan.”
Nine people have died in Gujarat in the past two days due to rain-related incidents. Visuals posted by news agency ANI also showed river water entering the low-lying residential areas in the state.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel about the prevailing situation in the state. He said that the NDRF and SDRF teams are working hand-in-hand with the local administration to help the people.
