Mumbai, 08/07/2023: NCP leader Sharad Pawar announced the launch of his statewide tour from Nashik today to shore up support amid the ongoing crisis in his party.
Since his nephew, Ajit Pawar defected to the current BJP-Shinde administration in Maharashtra, the 82-year-old Maharashtra leader has declared that he will undertake what he terms a mission to rebuild the party from the ground up. He would travel to Nashik, Pune, Solapur, and areas of Vidarbha, including constituencies held by Chagan Bhujbal, Dhananjay Mundem, and other renegade NCP MLAs.
This comes after Ajit Pawar’s claims that his side is the true NCP and has obtained the party’s name and symbol from the Election Commission. So far, he looks to have the backing of 32 MLAs, whereas Sharad Pawar appears to have the backing of 14.
Sharad Pawar has also written to the election commission, expressing his displeasure with his nephew’s claim to the party symbol. According to sources, Pawar Senior would seek legal counsel and consult with party leaders regarding the next steps.
