New Delhi, 09th July 2023: Police in India captured pro-Khalistani protestors after violence erupted at an anti-India event outside the Indian consulate in Canada’s Toronto region.

Across the street from the building holding India’s consulate, over 250 pro-Khalistani elements assembled. The protest, organised by the secessionist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), was made public by the online distribution of the infamous ‘Kill India’ banners, which targeted India’s top diplomats in Canada.

This time, however, the pro-Khalistan marchers were met with opposition from pro-India activists across the street. Even when barricades were placed to contain the protestors and the portion of Bloor Street where the building is located was closed to traffic, they were separated by a queue of Toronto Police officers.

The pro-Khalistan contingent tried to break through the wall and storm the pro-India camp. Police forced them back, and one individual who ran ahead was shoved to the ground, subdued, and arrested.

The Khalistani gang displayed posters of SFJ leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18. According to the posters, India was behind the assassination. Other banners promoted the next round of the so-called Punjab Referendum, which would take place in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on July 16. Some of them even wore jackets emblazoned with the words Republic of Khalistan and an image of an AK47.
