Thane, Maharashtra, July 14, 2023: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde launched a scathing attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, criticizing him for severing the “natural alliance” between their parties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and using the names of late Bal Thackeray and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for electoral gains. Shinde expressed his discontent while addressing a rally in Thane during his statewide tour following the NCP’s decision to join the ruling alliance led by Ajit Pawar.
“These individuals sought votes by invoking the names and images of Bal Thackeray and PM Modi, only to abandon them by aligning with the Congress. They betrayed the trust of the voters and misused their mandate for personal power. Who are the real traitors?” Shinde questioned.
Highlighting the accomplishments of PM Modi, including the fulfillment of Bal Thackeray’s aspiration to revoke Article 370, Shinde accused Uddhav Thackeray of betraying the Prime Minister’s trust.
The Chief Minister further emphasized the accessibility of his government, stating that the doors of his official residence, ‘Varsha,’ are always open for all, unlike in the past. He asserted that his administration’s transparency and willingness to engage with the public have unsettled some individuals.
Addressing the alliance between the BJP and Shiv Sena, Shinde acknowledged the BJP’s integrity in the partnership, mentioning that the BJP could have claimed power in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) after the 2017 elections. However, they graciously allowed the Sena to continue its reign.
“Despite having sufficient numbers, Devendra Fadnavis showed magnanimity by allowing the Sena to stake their claim, but today, they (the Uddhav Thackeray faction) are hurling abuses at him,” Shinde criticized.
Referring to the previous Thackeray-led government, the Chief Minister highlighted the lack of progress during their tenure. He expressed optimism for the future, asserting that the inclusion of Ajit Pawar in their alliance will further accelerate their pace of development.
