Mumbai (19/07/2023): The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG- AFTRA) went on strike last Monday, joining the Writers Guild of America. Deepika Padukone, a SAG-AFTRA member, has announced that she will not participate in ‘Project K’ marketing at San Diego Comic-Con to demonstrate solidarity with those on strike.

Deepika joined the union after making her English language film debut as the female lead in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, which starred Vin Diesel.

During the SAG-AFTRA strike, actors are not permitted to undertake promotional or publicity services. This includes appearances at conventions like the San Diego Comic-Con. As a result, Deepika Padukone will not be attending Project K’s promotional activity at the San Diego Comic-Con as a member of SAG-AFTRA and in accordance with their membership standards.

However, other cinema stars including as Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, and Amitabh Bachchan are scheduled to attend the event.

After failing to negotiate an agreement with Hollywood’s major studios, SAG-AFTRA, a union representing around 160,000 Hollywood actors, went on strike. That implies that for the first time in more than 60 years, Hollywood actors (all of whom are union members) and writers are on strike at the same time, halting most film and television projects.

Project K, directed by Nag Ashwin, will be released in two parts, the first of which will be published on January 12, 2024.
