New Delhi, July 20, 2023: A Delhi court has granted bail to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), in the sexual harassment case involving women wrestlers. Additionally, the court has allowed the bail application of Vinod Tomar, the suspended WFI assistant secretary.

Presiding over the case, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal stated, “I am granting bail on a bond of ₹25,000 each with certain conditions.” The conditions include directives for the accused not to leave the country without prior permission and to refrain from offering any inducement to witnesses in the case.

The charge sheet filed by Delhi Police on June 15 accuses Brij Bhushan Singh, a six-time MP, under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 354, 354A, 354D, and 506, related to assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation of women.

Earlier in the day, the court reserved its order on the bail applications of Brij Bhushan Singh and Vinod Tomar. During the hearing, the public prosecutor neither opposed nor supported the bail application, emphasizing that the application should be treated in accordance with the law.

Representing the complainants, their counsel opposed Brij Bhushan’s application, citing his influence. “Bail should not be granted. If at all it is granted, strict conditions must be imposed. Witnesses have been approached from time to time, no threat though,” the counsel stated.

Brij Bhushan’s lawyer assured the court that the accused will comply with all conditions.
