USA, 25th July 2023: Twitter is undergoing a massive rebranding process and will now be known as “X,” a choice that entails abandoning its iconic and highly valuable blue bird emblem, as well as a brand name, in favour of Elon Musk’s personal preference for something he considers cool.
Interestingly, while Musk is not officially in charge of the company’s policy and solely oversees the technical aspects, it appears that he is the one pulling the strings behind the scenes.
Some staff attempted to remove the Twitter sign from its offices at 1355 Market Street in San Francisco as part of the rebranding process.
However, things took a dramatic turn when the police interfered, halting the sign removal shortly after it began and detaining a couple of employees for an extended period of time.
The specific cause for the police intervention was unclear. According to one observer, Wayne Sutton, Musk did not secure a permit for the crane used in the removal operation, which may have sparked the police response.
Officers from the Tenderloin Station responded to a report of an unpermitted street closure near 10th and Market Street at 12:39 p.m., local time. They found that no crime had been committed and that the incident was not within their jurisdiction after investigating the issue.
As a result, the rebranding effort continued, and the Twitter symbol was finally replaced with the new “X” logo, indicating the company’s transition to its new identity.
According to the officers on the scene, someone from Twitter obtained a work order to remove the sign but failed to notify the building’s security and property owner. As a result, when the property manager noticed a crane being brought to the premises, he called the police.
The crane that was originally utilised for the removal is no longer near the premises, prompting several passersby to observe that the Twitter sign has been replaced with the new branding, making the company appear as “er” to them.
Several large letters, including a white “W,” were spotted laying on the ground during the event of removing the Twitter sign at its headquarters. Elon Musk earlier stated that the white “W” was at the core of a landlord dispute. This disagreement could be due to Musk’s unpaid rent.
