New Delhi, August 8, 2023: Multiple incidents of robbery attempt turned tragic in southwest Delhi as a 74-year-old man lost his life and two others sustained injuries in separate attacks.
However, the swift response of law enforcement resulted in the arrest of three perpetrators who had been targeting unsuspecting individuals on their morning walks.
In a distressing sequence of events, three stabbing-cum-robbery incidents transpired in the span of just 30 minutes within the Sagarpur locality. The victims, who were out and about during the early hours, found themselves confronting assailants seeking to make away with their belongings.
The first incident, reported at 5:17 am on Monday, involved a brutal attack on Ashok (54), who was relieved of his wallet and watch. While Ashok was able to provide crucial details to the police, two more distress calls swiftly followed.
Tragedy struck near the Mohan block when a 74-year-old man, Mohanlal, fell victim to a fatal assault while being robbed of his valuables. In the Durga Park area, Omni Dutt Singh suffered injuries as his assailants made off with cash and documents.
The unnerving string of events prompted a rapid police investigation. Through meticulous analysis of CCTV footage and information furnished by the victims, authorities zeroed in on a suspect, Akshay. Subsequent raids in the Palam Vihar area led to his arrest, while his accomplices, Sonu and Vaibhav, were also apprehended. The police seized the knives used in the attacks and managed to recover the stolen jewelry, wallets, and watches.
The incidents cast a grim light on the vulnerability of early morning pedestrians, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance. The swift action of the police underscores their dedication to safeguarding public safety and bringing the culprits to justice.
