New Delhi, August 10, 2023: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, voiced his apprehensions about increasing attacks against Muslims and alleged radicalisation within the majority community during a no-confidence motion debate in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Owaisi highlighted a disturbing incident in late July, where a uniform-clad man reportedly targeted and killed three Muslim passengers on a train, linking it to what he described as “extreme radicalisation and extremism of the majority community.” He further questioned the government’s response to such incidents, asking, “And if it is, what will the government do?”
He also expressed concern about recent violence in Nuh, Haryana, where he alleged that houses belonging to Muslims were demolished without proper due process. Owaisi criticized the handling of cases like the Bilkis Bano incident, where perpetrators were released despite their crimes. He accused the government of promoting majoritarian politics.
Regarding the Gyanvapi survey and the Places of Worship Act, Owaisi accused the government of attempting to undermine the Act and criticized the concept of a “Uniform Civil Code formula of ‘one nation, one language, one culture'” as reminiscent of a dictatorship.
During his speech, Owaisi emphasized the need for addressing the rising tensions and radicalisation concerns to ensure a harmonious society. His statements triggered discussions on the floor, reflecting the gravity of the issues raised.
Owaisi’s remarks come amid ongoing debates on various sensitive subjects related to religion and governance in India.
