New Delhi, August 26, 2023: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, suggesting that the party will exploit the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) moon mission Chandrayaan-3 for their 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign. Moitra took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express her views, stating, “ISRO is now BJP’s 2024 campaign tool. Every mission will be used to whip up nationalistic frenzy before elections.”
Moitra also took a dig at what she referred to as the “Bhakt and troll army” associated with the BJP, accusing them of working tirelessly to portray Indian scientific research as “Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai magic.”
“Bhakt & troll army working 24-7 to package decades of Indian scientific research as Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai magic,” Moitra remarked.
India made history on August 23 as the first nation to successfully land the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the Moon’s south pole. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in South Africa at the time, watched the event online and later congratulated the nation for the achievement.
Moitra clarified, “Yes, ISRO has a lander on the moon. Not the first time too. May we remind BJP that Narendra Modi has not landed on the moon. Nor has BJP IT Cell produced the research behind Chandrayaan.”
PM Modi returned to Bengaluru to meet the ISRO team behind the Chandrayaan-3 success after his visit to Greece. Nidhi Porwal, a Senior Scientist at U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), welcomed PM Modi’s visit, stating, “It’s magic which we have seen coming true in front of our eyes…A very strong team has worked day and night for all these four years to make this moment true.”
Moitra’s critique also emphasized, “Wake up, India. And no, I am not anti-national.”
