Telangana HC Denies Bail to YS Avinash Reddy’s Father and Aide in YS Vivekananda Reddy Murder Case

New Delhi, Sep 04, 2023: In a recent development, the Telangana High Court has refused to grant bail to YS Bhaskar Reddy, the father of Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy, and their associate Uday Kumar Reddy in connection with the murder case of former Andhra Pradesh minister YS Vivekananda Reddy, dating back to March 2019.

The verdict was delivered by a single-judge bench headed by Justice K Laxman, which had reserved its judgment on the bail petitions on August 24. The bench cited the critical stage of the ongoing investigation and the strong evidence presented against Bhaskar Reddy as the reasons for denying bail to the accused.

Bhaskar Reddy and Uday Kumar Reddy, who were arrested on April 16 and 14, respectively, are currently incarcerated in Chanchalguda Jail. They had filed separate bail appeals in the high court after their initial request for bail was rejected by the special court for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases on June 9.

Bhaskar Reddy’s lawyer, T Niranjan Reddy, argued that the CBI had arrested them without concrete evidence and contended that they should be granted bail since the CBI had completed its investigation and filed the chargesheet in June.

However, the CBI opposed bail, emphasizing that the case was at a crucial juncture, and granting bail to Bhaskar Reddy could potentially hinder the ongoing investigation. The agency also maintained that there was substantial evidence to establish Bhaskar Reddy’s involvement as a co-conspirator in Vivekananda Reddy’s murder and expressed concerns about potential tampering with evidence and witness influence.

The murder case of YS Vivekananda Reddy, the brother of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, had initially been investigated by the state police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) before being transferred to the CBI in July 2020, following a directive from the High Court.
