Dr. Tin Chun Wong, FDI President said, “We are delighted to have selected India as the venue for this year’s Annual World Dental Congress and to have had the pleasure of working with our colleagues at the Indian Dental Association to secure a memorable and well-attended event. India, as one of the world’s largest economies and most populous countries, is an ideal venue for FDI to pursue its vision of ‘Leading the World to Optimal Oral Health’. During the congress, we will be highlighting some of the major issues facing dental practitioners, in particular, and health services, in general. One of these is improving access to oral health care, since oral health is considered a human right. Another is oral healthcare for the ageing populations, which will be the subject of this year’s World Oral Health Forum under the title ‘Challenges of oral healthcare in an ageing society’.”
Dr. Mahesh Verma, IDA President said, “The Indian Dental Association, of which I am the president, is privileged to play host to the unique event of significance attended by a truly global audience. Really speaking, this is the largest dental congress to be held in the world. And, it’s the second time the coveted congress is being held in our country after a gap of ten years. Needless to say, it is a rare honour for any country, particularly for our country with over a billion population and over 300 dental colleges, to host an event of this universal importance. Under the theme of “A billion smiles welcome the world of dentistry”, the congress offers a platform to learn and exchange ideas with a global audience representing delegates from over 138 countries. With its burgeoning population, poverty and inequality, and a preponderant proportion of the people being socially and economically marginalised, the Congress will assume tremendous importance in improving their oral health. “
Dr. Ashok Dhoble, Hon’ble Secretary General, Indian Dental Association said, “Oral health is integral to overall health and quality of life. I am delighted to announce here that IDA has started an oral health movement in the form of National Oral Health Programme in the country to create awareness among the people. A project on Healthy Smile, Happy Smile to be launched shortly aims at sustaining the smile on the billion population in keeping with the congress theme. Next year, IDA will be celebrating the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Rafiuddin Ahmed, the father of modern Indian Dentistry and founder of IDA. What better forum to make the announcement than at the FDI Annual World Dental Congress”, he said.
The FDI’s Annual World Dental Congress has always been a unique opportunity to meet leaders of the dental profession from more than one hundred countries, as well as top personalities of the international and national trade and industry.
